Communities in twelve counties within Iowa’s 4th Congressional District have received new opportunity zone designations, making them eligible for economic investment, according to an announcement from U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull).
The expansion of these opportunity zones is attributed to the Working Families Tax Cuts, legislation that Feenstra contributed to and that was signed into law by former President Donald Trump.
“I’m glad to announce that, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts that I helped write, communities in 12 counties in our district, and an additional 19 counties statewide, are now newly designated as opportunity zones, which will help attract private investment and power economic growth in rural Iowa. Expanding opportunity zones in Iowa is an important way that we can create good jobs, invest in Main Street, and strengthen domestic manufacturing,” said Rep. Feenstra. “Republicans’ package of tax cuts prevented the largest tax increase on Iowa families, farmers, workers, and small businesses in history and instead delivered real tax relief for Iowans and enacted pro-growth provisions that benefit Iowa manufacturing and agriculture. This expansion of opportunity zones, especially in our rural communities, will grow our economy, encourage business investment, support Iowa agriculture, and strengthen our main streets.”
The newly designated counties include Buena Vista County, Calhoun County, Cherokee County, Crawford County, Emmet County, Hamilton County, Ida County, Marshall County, Plymouth County, Pocahontas County, Shelby County and Webster County.
Feenstra has represented Iowa’s 4th Congressional District since 2021 after replacing Steve King. Before serving in Congress he was a member of the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2021. Born in Hull in 1969 and a graduate of Dordt University with a BA earned in 1991,Feenstra currently resides there.
The official announcement was made by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service.
