Randy Feenstra, U.S. Congressman representing Iowa’s 4th district since 2021, addressed recent developments in Congress through a series of posts on X between September 30 and October 1, 2025. Feenstra’s statements centered on the ongoing debate over government funding and his personal commitment regarding his congressional salary during a potential shutdown.

On September 30, Feenstra wrote, "Republicans did our job and voted to keep the government open. Democrats are threatening to shut down the government unless they can spend $1.5 trillion and give free healthcare to illegal immigrants. But, if Democrats shut down the government, I will not accept a paycheck."

Later that evening, he reiterated his position: "Alongside my Republican colleagues, I voted to keep the government open and avoid a shutdown. Democrats are intent on shutting down the government if their demands of $1.5 trillion in new spending and free healthcare for illegal immigrants aren’t met. This stunt is unserious."

On October 1, Feenstra marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a message of support: "October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Today and always, we pray for those brave women still battling cancer, celebrate the survivors, and remember those taken too soon."

Feenstra’s comments come as Congress faces heightened tensions over federal spending and potential impacts on government operations. As background, Feenstra has represented Iowa’s 4th District since replacing Steve King in 2021. He previously served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2021. Born in Hull, Iowa in 1969, Feenstra graduated from Dordt University in 1991 with a BA and continues to reside in Hull.
