Rep. Randy Feenstra, who represents Iowa’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media account on October 1, 2025, to comment on the government shutdown and its impact on military personnel, border patrol agents, and Iowa farmers.

In a post published at 14:34 UTC, Feenstra stated, "Since Democrats shut down the government, I am not accepting a paycheck. If our troops aren't paid, Members of Congress should not be either. It is unfortunate that Democrats are playing politics with our economy and the wellbeing of American families."

Later the same day, at 18:02 UTC, he reiterated his concerns about the effects of the shutdown on federal employees: "The Democrats' shutdown prevents our troops and border patrol agents from being paid. That's wrong and unacceptable. It's why I backed two pieces of legislation to ensure that our troops and border patrol agents are paid during a government shutdown."

Feenstra also addressed agricultural issues in Iowa in a post at 18:40 UTC, writing, "Thank you to President Trump for ALWAYS standing with Iowa farmers! China is unfairly holding soybean markets hostage. I’m committed to working with President Trump to deliver immediate relief for our farmers and continue to secure strong trade deals for Iowa agriculture."

Randy Feenstra has represented Iowa’s 4th district in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Steve King. Before his election to the U.S. House of Representatives, he served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2021. Born in Hull, Iowa in 1969, Feenstra continues to reside there and graduated from Dordt University with a bachelor’s degree in 1991.
