Rep. Randy Feenstra, a U.S. Congressman representing Iowa’s 4th district since 2021, used his social media platform to criticize Democrats for the recent government shutdown and its impact on military personnel.
On October 1, 2025, Feenstra wrote, "Republicans voted to keep the government open. Democrats voted to shut the government down. It's that simple."
The following day, Feenstra continued his criticism in a post stating, "Because Democrats shut down the government, Iowa National Guard troops will not be paid. I support the Pay Our Troops Act to ensure that our military and the Iowa National Guard do not miss a paycheck during a shutdown. Democrats must end this stunt." This message was posted on October 2, 2025.
Later that same day, Feenstra added: "Democrats shut down the government because they want to give illegal immigrants free healthcare and spend $1.5 trillion in taxpayer dollars. Now, our troops, border patrol agents, and national guard aren’t being paid. Democrats’ partisan stunt hurts Americans and our economy."
Randy Feenstra has served as Iowa’s representative in Congress since defeating Steve King in 2021. Prior to joining Congress, he served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2021. Born in Hull, Iowa in 1969 and an alumnus of Dordt University (BA, 1991), Feenstra continues to reside in Hull while representing his district.
