Randy Feenstra, U.S. Congressman representing Iowa’s 4th district since 2021, has used his social media platform to criticize Democrats over the ongoing government shutdown in October 2025. In a series of posts, Feenstra attributed responsibility for the shutdown and its consequences to Democratic lawmakers.
On October 10, 2025, Feenstra posted: "Chuck Schumer said that 'every day gets better for us' when talking about the Democrat shutdown. That's shameful. Every day is NOT getting better for our troops who won't be paid, farmers who can't access FSA offices, and veterans who can't get the care they need."
Later that same day, he wrote: "Democrats are to blame for this pointless government shutdown. We are more than $36 trillion in debt yet the Democrats want to spend another $1.5 trillion and give free healthcare to illegal immigrants. Republicans will continue to stand with Americans."
On October 11, Feenstra continued his criticism: "We are now on Day 11 of the Democrat shutdown. Democrats are entirely to blame for blocking pay for our troops. Democrats are entirely to blame for keeping FSA offices closed during harvest. Democrats are entirely to blame for shuttering vital services Americans depend on."
Feenstra's comments come as he serves his second term in Congress after replacing Steve King in 2021. Prior to his time in Congress, Feenstra served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 until his election to federal office and holds a degree from Dordt University earned in 1991.
The current government shutdown has led to disruptions affecting military personnel pay, closure of Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices during harvest season, and interruptions of other public services.
