Randy Feenstra, U.S. Congressman representing Iowa’s 4th district since 2021, posted a series of statements on his social media accounts in mid-October 2025, focusing on the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on Iowa constituents, particularly farmers and military personnel.

On October 15, 2025, Feenstra wrote, "This Democrat shutdown is hurting Iowa farmers. FSA offices are closed, farm loans and conservation dollars aren't accessible, and up-to-date market data is unreachable all because Democrats want to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants." In the same thread, Feenstra added later that day, "President Trump just signed an executive order ensuring that our troops are paid during this Democrat shutdown. President Trump and Republicans stand with our men and women in uniform."

The following day, Feenstra continued his criticism of the government closure, stating, "It has now been 16 days that the Democrats have kept the government closed to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants."

Feenstra, who was born in Hull, Iowa in 1969 and still resides there, succeeded Steve King as representative for Iowa’s 4th district after serving over a decade in the Iowa Senate. He graduated from Dordt University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991.

The current shutdown cited by Feenstra reflects a pattern of political disputes leading to lapses in federal funding, which can affect a range of services including agricultural support and military pay. Feenstra’s remarks align with his long-standing representation of a predominantly rural district where farming interests are a major concern.
