Gov. Kim Reynolds put an order in place to close all dine-in options for restaurants in Sioux City to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Reynolds' order is limiting gathering to 10 people or less and with those kinds of limits, multiple other businesses are closing as well.
Reynolds' order shocked Iowa and closed more than just restaurants. Bars, casinos and entertainment venues are also required to close down to coincide with the order that limits more than ten people gathering. It is expected that half or 80,000 workers in the restaurant industry will be joining unemployment in the next several days, according to the President and Chief executive of the Iowa Restaurant Association, Jessica Dunker. These restrictions are set to last until March 31, but Reynolds expects them to last much longer.
Some of the businesses that closed down served little to no food, while the larger ones that served regular meals are doing what they can to keep business up and running by offering take out and delivery. All food and drink need to be off-site while being consumed.
