WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) introduced the Balanced Budget and Accounting Act, which would require the President to submit a balanced budget to Congress.
In a statement, Rep. Feenstra expressed concerns about the current state of the national debt under the Biden administration, stating, "Our national debt is increasing by $1 trillion about every 100 days because the Biden administration refuses to end its reckless spending agenda and get our fiscal house in order." He further criticized President Biden's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025, highlighting the potential economic consequences of such a budget.
Feenstra emphasized the need for fiscal responsibility, saying, "Our $34-trillion national debt poses the greatest threat to our economic security and emboldens China and our foreign adversaries to exploit our precarious fiscal foundation." In response to these concerns, he introduced the legislation to mandate a balanced budget submission to Congress, aiming to prevent what he referred to as "reckless spending" and budget gimmicks.
The full legislative text of the Balanced Budget and Accounting Act can be found on Rep. Feenstra's official website.
