Last week, the Storm Lake Post Office reopened after being closed for approximately three months. The closure followed damage from a car accident in July. U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra played a role in facilitating the reopening.
Feenstra's team acted promptly upon receiving a constituent's concern. They reached out to both the Consumer Affairs Manager and the Storm Lake Postmaster to inquire about the timeline for reopening and how services were being provided to elderly and disabled residents during the construction period. After these inquiries, construction was completed, and approval was given for the post office to resume operations.
"Iowans – especially those in rural communities – rely on the post office to receive their mail, pay their bills, and get their prescription medications," said Rep. Feenstra. "For the post office in Storm Lake to be closed for months on end denies Iowans of this important service."
Feenstra expressed satisfaction with the reopening, emphasizing its importance for residents needing access to PO boxes and mail services: "I’m glad the Storm Lake Post Office reopened and will allow residents to access their PO boxes and send mail in a safe atmosphere. I will continue to work to deliver for our communities."
