U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra has successfully led the passage of Sarah's Law as an amendment to the Laken Riley Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The legislation aims to ensure that illegal immigrants who harm or kill American citizens are detained and prosecuted.
Feenstra has consistently introduced Sarah's Law since his first election, emphasizing its importance in delivering justice for victims like Sarah Root. "After years of advocacy, I am thrilled that Sarah’s Law was included in the Laken Riley Act, which passed the House of Representatives and is now headed to President Trump’s desk for his signature," said Rep. Feenstra. He recalled the tragic incident nearly a decade ago when 21-year-old Sarah Root was killed by an illegal immigrant driving under the influence. The individual involved posted bail and was released from jail, evading justice.
The law seeks to address such situations by ensuring swift detention and prosecution of offenders. Feenstra expressed confidence in securing borders and combating crimes committed by illegal immigrants with President Trump in office.
Michelle Root, mother of Sarah Root, supported the legislation: "My beautiful daughter, Sarah, was taken from us way too soon at the hands of a criminal who should have never been in our country." She praised Congressman Feenstra for his efforts to honor her daughter and fight for justice, calling him a champion for communities.
The bill now awaits President Trump's signature to become law.
