Last week, U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra, alongside Representatives Adrian Smith and Angie Craig, sent a letter to the new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin. The letter urged strong support for American biofuels to enhance U.S. energy independence and security.
"Iowa biofuels support American energy security, independence, and dominance," stated Rep. Feenstra. "These homegrown fuels lower prices at the pump for our families, create new markets for our farmers, and reduce our reliance on foreign energy." He further emphasized his advocacy by stating that he helped lead a letter to EPA Administrator Zeldin asking for year-round access to E-15 nationwide and fair Renewable Volume Obligations for biofuels while protecting the Renewable Fuel Standard.
The lawmakers highlighted the importance of steady growth in U.S. biofuel production as it contributes significantly to the economy. They noted that ethanol contributed over $54 billion to the U.S. GDP in 2023 and sustained over 394,000 jobs. Additionally, the biodiesel and renewable diesel industry supports 75,200 jobs and generates $23.2 billion in annual economic activity.
